Gunfire broke the night in Memphis’ Victorian Village neighborhood as officers rushed to the 500 block of Techno Lane, just off Madison Avenue, at about 10:45 p.m., where police say they are investigating a reported shooting.
Memphis police said detectives were on the scene late into the night, gathering evidence and working to confirm whether anyone was injured. The stretch of Techno Lane was under active investigation as officers tried to piece together what went down.
According to WREG, police had no suspect information at the time of the report, and investigators were still sorting through early details surrounding the incident.
Police say they are still digging for answers
In a brief statement to WREG, Memphis police summed it up this way: “An investigation is underway.”
Detectives are now leaning on the public for help. Anyone who knows something, saw something, or has video tied to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Memphis and Shelby County at 901-528-CASH (2274), the group’s website notes.
Historic neighborhood on edge
Victorian Village is a historic Midtown district known for its late-19th-century homes and tree-lined blocks, according to Memphis Heritage. Residents in and around the area have seen more flashing blue lights lately than they would like.
The latest shooting adds to a recent string of incidents across the city. Earlier this month, a separate Midtown shooting at a busy intersection left two people wounded, Action News 5 reported. Neighborhood groups and police have urged anyone with information or video from any of these incidents to step up as investigators work to connect the dots.
Police say they expect to release more details about the Victorian Village case as the investigation moves forward. This story will be updated when authorities provide additional information.
