Springfield detectives say a targeted firearms and narcotics operation last Wednesday ended with three arrests, an alleged trafficking weight of cocaine and one illegal gun off the street. Investigators reported seizing more than 100 grams of powder and crack cocaine, nearly $5,000 in cash, loose ammunition, a taser and other evidence after serving a search warrant at a Cedar Street home. Police identified the three men as Dean Banks, Leon Jenkins and Scott Taylor, and said K-9 Flexx helped officers during the takedown.
The Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit shared photos and a timeline on Facebook, describing how detectives watched what they believed was a hand-to-hand drug sale on the 300 block of Dickinson Street and then tailed suspects to several locations before moving in. According to the post, officers attempted a traffic stop near Hickory and Hancock streets, but the occupants ditched their vehicle on Athol Street and ran. Detectives later executed a search warrant at a residence on the 0-100 block of Cedar Street and arrested Banks in the area of Van Horn Park, the post states.

The Facebook update states that the investigation centered on narcotics and illegal firearms, with Banks as the primary suspect. Detectives say they saw Banks make a suspected drug deal on the 300 block of Dickinson Street and detained Scott Taylor at that same location, allegedly finding six small baggies of cocaine on him. The post says an illegal firearm was recovered inside the Cedar Street residence during the warrant. Department photos in the update also show K-9 Flexx working alongside officers at the scene.
Charges And Evidence Recovered
According to police, Leon Jenkins is charged with distribution of a Class B drug and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Scott Taylor faces a charge of possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug. Banks, described by officers as the focus of the probe, faces multiple firearm-related counts, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, improper storage and related offenses.
