Residents and commuters in St. Charles Parish are facing a maze of road closures and detours this month, as ongoing construction projects prompt several parish road closures and lane restrictions. The latest advisories indicate that drivers need to plan ahead and seek alternate routes across the region to circumvent the disruptions, as reported by the St. Charles Parish.
Travelers traversing Hwy 628 (CC Road) are directed to alternative paths until March 13, 2026, due to crucial works for the installation of sheet pile and batter piles, according to a recent notification from the St. Charles Parish. While Hwy 628 remains accessible between the KCS railroad to the spillway road and River Road, haul trucks, Cembell Industries, and Vickers Lane residents are advised to use Spillway Road or River Road during the closure period.
Adding to the thoroughfare impediments, Jonathan Street in Destrehan is still off-limits pending further notice. For emergency access, emergency traffic is diverted to use Bunge's heavy haul road to reach Noel Street behind the facility. Meanwhile, the intersection of 3rd St. and Barreca St. in Norco was temporary blocked on February 5 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, impeding passage for emergency vehicles seeking to cross for drainage improvement operations.
On a slightly positive note, Ormond Center Court's blockage, stretching from Reginelli’s to Buddy's Frostop, has been ameliorated with the establishment of a detour that enables continued vehicle flow. LA 3127 is also undergoing intermittent lane closures between the St. James Parish Line and St. Charles Parish Line for the comprehensive project that is scheduled to last almost a year. Motorists impacted by the LA 3127 closures have been provided with advised detour routes to skirt the area—a detour that involves utilizing LA 3213, LA 641, I-10, and I-310, to reroute around the construction, as outlined by the St. Charles Parish.
The conveyance challenges continue with the announcement of an upcoming lane closure on northbound and southbound LA 3127 due to utility work, and similar restrictions on LA 3160 for permits and utility reasons. Moreover, a recur on US 61 (Airline Hwy) between Almedia Rd and Ormond Blvd has been noted on the official parish website, setting the stage for single lane closures to facilitate asphalt patching work from the evening of February 8th through the morning of February 13, weather permitting. All road users are encouraged to remain alert to these changes and account for potential delays in their travel plans.
