A dog found itself in a precarious situation yesterday morning when it became trapped in a well in St. Clair Township. According to a social media post by the St. Clair Township Fire Department, fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the 2400 block of Maple St. around 9:30 a.m. yesterday, February 1, to assist the distressed animal.

The initial reports underestimated the well's depth, stating the dog was 40ft down when it was actually around 25-30ft beneath the surface, located in a crawl space. Arriving units quickly assessed the situation, confronting the challenge that the well's existing rigging and ladders were deteriorated, untrustworthy paths for a rescue operation.

C200, recognizing the complexity of the situation, called for backup from the Butler County Tech Rescue team. This call brought additional resources to the site and the expertise necessary to navigate the rescue safely and efficiently. Once the rescue team was assembled, they executed a plan to retrieve the stranded canine.

The operation was a collaboration between several agencies, including St. Clair Township/New Miami Life Squad, Liberty Township Fire Department, the City of Monroe Fire Department, West Chester Township Government, and the Butler County Emergency Management Agency. In gratitude, the St. Clair Township Fire Department expressed their thanks, "We would like to thank our mutual aid for their assistance," highlighting the community effort in safeguarding not just human, but also animal lives.
