Elk Grove’s sushi scene is bracing for a new arrival, as Kai Japanese Cuisine, a sushi-focused concept from a husband-and-wife team, gets ready to move into the neighborhood. The couple says the project is still in its early stages, but they are aiming to open within the next few months with a menu built around sushi and related staples.
According to What Now, the operators, identified as Jing and Rong Chen, have filed paperwork with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to open at 9261 Laguna Springs Drive, Suite 150. The outlet notes that Kai does not yet have a website or public social media, and also points out that it is still unclear whether Hello Temaki, the current tenant at that address, will close, relocate, or be rebranded as part of the transition.
Laguna Springs space
The Suite 150 unit is currently listed as Hello Temaki’s address on the restaurant’s official site, which provides hours and contact information for the hand-roll shop. Hello Temaki has been part of the Laguna Springs shopping lineup and appears in local business directories as an active tenant, with the location listed at Hello Temaki.
Menu and timeline
What Now reports that Kai’s menu will center on nigiri, sashimi, specialty rolls, and hand rolls, along with classic appetizers such as gyoza and tempura. Bento boxes and teriyaki plates are also expected. The owners told the outlet they are targeting an opening within the next few months, while their ABC filing moves through the review process.
Why Elk Grove now
Elk Grove already has a healthy lineup of sushi-focused spots, and local listings suggest residents are not shy about their love for Japanese food. Explore Elk Grove highlights multiple sushi restaurants across the city, and recent expansions into the area point to sustained interest in Japanese and noodle-forward dining.
We will update this space as public filings move ahead or Kai releases its own menu and opening details.
