
An hours-long SWAT standoff on Cheshire Bridge Road ended with an arrest yesterday after two Atlanta police officers were injured. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Cheshire Bridge Road, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Police said officers were allowed into an apartment by the property owner, where a suspect began firing a weapon. The incident escalated into a standoff that lasted several hours.
One officer was grazed in the head by a bullet, and another suffered shrapnel injuries. Both were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, treated, and later released. WSB-TV reported that Atlanta Police Major Pete Malecki confirmed the officers’ injuries were not life-threatening.
The standoff ended shortly before 2 p.m. when the suspect was taken into custody. Charges have not yet been released. Traffic in the area was impacted during the incident.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation, which is standard in cases involving officer-involved shootings. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
