
Early morning maneuverings by Malden Police's finest led to the apprehension of a suspect in a chilling series of assaults in the Malden Center MBTA station area. According to a social media update from the department, detectives, bolstered by the Malden Special Operations Unit, executed an arrest warrant at a Melrose residence on Ferdinand Street.
The police statement outlined the timeline of events that prompted law enforcement’s response. The series of incidents began in the third week of January, around January 18, when seemingly random attacks first occurred in Malden. Two of these incidents showed indications of a sexual motive. Early this morning, police identified Ralph Fleuristil, 34, as the alleged perpetrator. It is important to note that Mr. Fleuristil is presumed innocent under the law until proven guilty in a court of law.
Despite the successful capture, Detective David Yung, leading the investigation, suspects there are layers to this story yet to be turned over. With at least two female victims positively identified, the belief is that others have yet to break their silence.
