A high-speed chase involving a stolen car and multiple police units culminated in a firearms arrest and the apprehension of three individuals in Chicopee on Tuesday. According to the social media post from the Chicopee Police Department, the vehicle was spotted entering the city in the early afternoon and was under surveillance without the suspect's knowledge.
The police detail escalated as the driver – a 17-year-old juvenile from Springfield – attempted to evade detection and subsequently caused a collision, striking four other vehicles. The incident did not involve marked police cruisers until the suspect became ensnared in traffic, prompting officers to approach. An ensuing foot chase led to the quick capture of the driver, who had tried to conceal a firearm in the snow before being detained. Two passengers, including 18-year-old Springfield resident Lionel Alsina and an unnamed minor, were also arrested after attempting to flee the scene.
Investigations revealed that the recovered firearm had an extended magazine and a defaced serial number, adding to the gravity of the driver's charges, which include possession of a large capacity firearm and carrying a loaded firearm without a license, among other vehicular-related offenses. Alsina is facing charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle and resisting arrest, while the other minor involved has been charged with the same vehicle-related offenses.
