Indianapolis police are asking for help tracking down two men from Gary who investigators say are tied to a deadly shooting inside a Waffle House on the city's southwest side, where an argument in the middle of the night turned into gunfire that killed a woman and wounded several others.
IMPD has identified the two fugitives as 29-year-old Khayree Sims and 30-year-old Saleem El-Amin and says warrants were issued in April 2025 connecting them to the case. Detectives believe the men may be hiding in the Gary or Chicago area and say a third man is already behind bars. According to FOX59, 33-year-old Darrell Turner is being held without bond on murder, attempted murder and battery charges and is awaiting a May trial.
What Happened At The Waffle House
The shooting broke out shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 19, 2024, at the Waffle House on South Lynhurst Drive, where officers arrived to find multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds and two firearms on the floor. Five people were hurt and a woman later died at a hospital. The Marion County coroner identified her as 35-year-old Crystal Kennebrew, a Gary bar owner who had come to Indianapolis for All-Star weekend. Those early details were reported by WRTV.
Investigators' Account
According to court filings and investigators, the violence started with an assault inside the restaurant. An affidavit filed in April alleges that Sims set off the deadly chain of events by punching one of Kennebrew's friends. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives shows the man who was assaulted pulling a gun and opening fire, and the filings say nearly 50 rounds were ultimately fired during the chaos. Those details are laid out in court records and in IMPD's public request for help, as reported by FOX59.
How To Help
IMPD is asking anyone with information to contact IMPD Homicide at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477. Investigators say images, video, hotel check-ins or receipts that put the suspects in the area could help move the case forward. The department's public appeal was relayed in local coverage by WISH-TV.
What's Next
The investigation remains active while prosecutors decide the next steps and detectives keep working the file. IMPD says anyone with information, no matter how small it might seem, should reach out to investigators as court dates and other procedural moves continue to unfold.
