A 44-year-old man was rushed to the hospital late Sunday after being shot multiple times in the face and both arms, then found wounded along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW in southwest Atlanta, police said.
Atlanta officers were called around 10:22 p.m. to a report of a person shot at 3501 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW. When they arrived, they found the 44-year-old suffering from several gunshot wounds to his face and both arms, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. He was described as "alert and breathing" at the scene and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators quickly determined the victim had not been shot where he was found. A preliminary review indicated the actual shooting occurred at 195 Fairburn Road NW, officials said, and detectives with the Aggravated Assault Unit responded to that address to process the scene and begin their investigation, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Violence along a southwest corridor
The area around Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Fairburn Road has been on law enforcement’s radar for violent crime before. In 2023, a person was shot and killed just outside Fire Station 9 on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, a case that drew citywide attention, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Fairburn Road address in Sunday’s case is not new to police, either. An earlier nonfatal shooting at 195 Fairburn Road NW was reported in June 2025, according to an earlier Fairburn Road shooting report. Together, those incidents highlight how gun violence has repeatedly flared along parts of this southwest Atlanta corridor.
Case still open, motive unclear
Police say the investigation into Sunday night’s shooting is active, with detectives working to piece together what led up to the gunfire. No arrests have been announced and officers have not released any suspect descriptions, according to department summaries posted by the Atlanta Police Department.
