A quiet Sunday in Bellingham turned tense when a concerning social media post that mentioned Bellingham High School and listed a specific time and date landed on the radar of school officials and police. The high school was placed on alert as administrators tightened security and law enforcement stepped up its presence on campus while detectives worked to track down who was behind the post.
According to Boston 25 News, Superintendent Peter Marano said the district and the Bellingham Police Department are actively investigating and have put in place “additional security measures” and a “comprehensive safety plan.” He stressed that “the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.” Marano also noted that the school resource officer would stay highly visible and engaged at the high school while officials evaluate the situation.
Police tracing the post
Detectives followed the digital trail of the post to a residence in town and identified a juvenile suspect, Newport Dispatch reported. Officers then interviewed family members at the home. After those conversations, police said they do not believe there is any danger to the school or to the public at this time, although they plan to continue monitoring the situation in coordination with the district.
