A man was shot in the head late Monday and rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition after a gunman on a bicycle opened fire near downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District. The shooting was reported around 10:35 p.m. at Washington Boulevard and Santee Street, and the cyclist took off before officers could get to the scene.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division were dispatched to the intersection at about 10:35 p.m. Monday, according to MyNewsLA. The outlet reports the victim had been sitting inside a vehicle when the suspect rode past on a bicycle, fired several shots into the car, and then fled. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the man to a hospital, and police told the outlet there was no immediate description of the shooter as the investigation remained active.
Where It Happened
The shooting occurred on the edge of the Fashion District, a 107-block wholesale and retail area anchored by Santee Alley, according to the LA Fashion District. With its mix of storefronts and late-hour activity, the Washington and Santee intersection can draw both drivers and pedestrians after dark, which can make response and witness outreach more complicated.
Police Response
Detectives have not released a suspect description, and no arrests were reported as of Tuesday night. Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD tip line at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 or submit an anonymous tip to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers, according to the LAPD.
