In the middle of a quiet Tuesday afternoon, a man walked into a Somerville corner store, pulled a knife on the cashier, and walked out with roughly $900 in cash. The brazen robbery, caught clearly on store security cameras, left employees rattled but physically unharmed. Somerville police say they are investigating and confirm that no arrests have been made, as per WHDH.
Security Footage Shows Knifepoint Theft
According to surveillance video, the robbery unfolded around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Boston Convenience on Broadway. The suspect can be seen stepping behind the counter, pulling out a knife, and grabbing handfuls of cash from the register before sprinting off on foot with about $900, as reported by WHDH. In the chaos, the man also smashed a lottery counter before bolting from the store. No injuries were reported.
Employees Shaken But Unharmed
Cashier Anju Rani told WHDH that the encounter escalated in an instant. “He suddenly stepped inside the counter and showed me his knife,” she recalled. Store co-owners told the station their top priority was keeping employees safe and said they were deeply relieved no one was hurt. One co-owner noted that this was the first time they had experienced a robbery in broad daylight.
