An early-morning crash on one of Fort Lauderdale's main arteries turned into a chain-reaction mess Wednesday when a responding firetruck was hit by another vehicle, officials said. Three people were taken to the trauma center at Broward Health, both directions of Broward Boulevard were shut down during the morning rush, and commuters were left hunting for workarounds. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said the three firefighters aboard Engine 2 were not injured.
According to CBS Miami, the initial two-vehicle collision was reported around 4:15 a.m. at West Broward Boulevard and 7th Avenue. CBS reports that Fort Lauderdale Engine 2 was struck as a secondary crash at the scene and that three people were rushed to the trauma center at Broward Health Medical Center.
Intersection's crash history
That stretch of West Broward Boulevard has seen serious wrecks before. A June 2025 multi-vehicle collision at the same intersection also sent multiple people to Broward Health and showed how a single crash can lock up the corridor.
Traffic and hospital impact
Broward Boulevard was closed in both directions and officials urged drivers to use alternate routes while crews worked the scene. Per CBS Miami, emergency responders transported the injured to Broward Health Medical Center. Broward Health's site lists Broward Health Medical Center at 1600 S. Andrews Ave and notes it provides 24/7 trauma services for the county.
No other details were released early Wednesday, and officials had not yet said what caused the secondary collision. We will update this post as Fort Lauderdale authorities release more information and as traffic reopens on Broward Boulevard.
