A 19-year-old was shot shortly after midnight Monday near Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis, according to police, turning a stretch usually packed with baseball fans and bar traffic into an active crime scene. The victim was taken to a hospital, and the shooting remains under investigation.
Three People Detained, Police Say
According to KSDK, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said three people, including two juveniles, were taken into custody in connection with the overnight shooting. Police have not released the names or specific ages of those detained, and it was not immediately clear whether any charges had been filed. Investigators are still collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Stadium Security and the Downtown Strip
The shooting unfolded in the Ballpark Village–Busch Stadium entertainment corridor, an area that draws crowds of fans and visitors and that has seen similar late-night trouble in previous seasons. Security at Busch Stadium includes walk-through metal detectors, police rapid-response teams and hundreds of surveillance cameras, St. Louis Public Radio reported. The Cardinals and private security staff coordinate with city authorities on game-day safety plans for the busy downtown zone.
Police Ask for Tips
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who captured video of the incident to contact the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department or CrimeStoppers, KSDK reported. Police said they plan to release more information as the investigation moves forward.
