Two drivers turned a wet stretch of Wade Green Road into their personal racetrack Tuesday night and ended up in handcuffs instead of a victory lane photo. Deputies in Cherokee County say they clocked the pair tearing northbound down the road at more than 90 mph on slick pavement where the posted limit is just 40 mph. The drivers, ages 21 and 34, were arrested on the spot, booked into the county jail, and now face serious criminal charges.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, deputies spotted the two vehicles locked in what they described as an unofficial street race and then confirmed the high speeds on the rain-soaked roadway, as reported by WSB-TV. The agency used the incident as a cautionary tale for other motorists, warning that "rain is not traction control" and urging drivers to ease off the gas when the roads are wet.

Deputies noted that the stretch of Wade Green Road carries a 40 mph speed limit and that pushing a car to more than double that on a wet surface leaves almost no room for error. Traveling at close to triple the posted speed, they said, turns even a minor slide or mistake into a potential crash.
