A quiet Sunday morning commute on Interstate 93 south through Quincy turned tragic when a single vehicle crashed near the Furnace Brook Parkway exit, killing one person and leaving another with serious injuries, according to authorities.
The collision happened just after 6 a.m. and drew a significant emergency response as state police shut down part of the roadway to investigate. Troopers described it as a single-vehicle crash that left one occupant dead at the scene and another receiving treatment for serious injuries, as reported by WCVB. The cause of the incident, investigators said, "remains under investigation."
Stretch Known For Crashes
The section of the Southeast Expressway around the Furnace Brook Parkway ramps is no stranger to trouble. In regional planning documents, it has already been flagged as a crash-prone area. The Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization identified the I-93 ramps to Furnace Brook Parkway as a recurring crash cluster and prioritized the location for safety improvements, according to the Boston MPO.
Investigation Continues
State police have not yet released the names of those involved in the crash and did not immediately provide additional details, WCVB reported. Troopers said investigators are continuing to process the scene and will release more information when it becomes available.
