North County drivers ran into a traffic nightmare Friday afternoon after a fatal crash at Shackelford Road and Kilmory Drive shut the busy corridor in both directions, according to St. Louis County police. Emergency crews flooded the scene, and the county barricaded the roadway between nearby subdivisions while investigators worked to piece together what happened.
Officials have not released the names of anyone involved or said what caused the collision. Drivers in north St. Louis County were urged to steer clear of the area and find alternate routes.
As reported by KMOV, the closure stretches between Kilmory Estates and Charleston Estates, effectively cutting off a key local cut-through. Police did not give an estimate for when Shackelford Road would reopen, and traffic was being diverted around the scene while crews worked.
Where The Closure Is Hitting
According to St. Louis County Transportation & Public Works, Shackelford Road and Kilmory Drive are county-maintained roads in unincorporated North St. Louis County near Florissant. County planning documents list Shackelford Road segments that include the block around Kilmory Drive, so the shutdown is disrupting local residential streets and regular neighborhood traffic patterns.
Crash-Prone Corner
This intersection has seen serious trouble before. In October 2025 a two-car crash at Shackelford and Kilmory sent one person by air ambulance to a hospital and injured two others, KMOV reported. Another major wreck at the same spot is likely to draw extra attention from county traffic and safety officials.
What Drivers Should Do
For now, motorists should avoid Shackelford Road in this stretch and follow posted detours or any directions from officers on scene. For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency information or to report tips, contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 or check the department's website for updates.
This is a developing story and will be updated as officials release more details.
