Authorities say a New Orleans man is facing a serious felony after a domestic dispute inside a Downman Road apartment turned into a fire investigators believe was no accident.
According to officials, the State Fire Marshal later determined the small blaze was intentionally set, leading to an aggravated arson charge tied to the chaotic scene reported inside the unit last October.
Quinton Rene Quinn, 35, has been arrested and booked on one count of aggravated arson. As reported by WDSU, police and fire investigators responded around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2025, to an apartment in the 7700 block of Downman Road after a domestic disturbance call. Investigators allege Quinn put a towel in an oven, switched it on and walked away, sparking the fire.
The State Fire Marshal’s office concluded the fire was set on purpose. Quinn was taken into custody Saturday on a fugitive warrant that officials say was unrelated to the Fire Marshal’s inquiry, and he was later linked to the arson case.
What the charge means
Under Louisiana law, aggravated arson is defined in R.S. 14:51 and applies when someone knowingly sets a fire or explosion that puts people or occupied buildings in danger. It is a felony offense that can bring significant prison time and fines under state law, according to the Louisiana Revised Statutes.
Next steps in the case
Prosecutors are expected to review the State Fire Marshal’s findings along with other evidence before deciding whether to seek a formal indictment or move directly to arraignment. At the time of reporting, no hearing dates or detailed court records were publicly available, and the case file remained in progress.
It was also not immediately clear whether formal charging documents had been filed in court. The State Fire Marshal’s office and local police say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
