For an 85-year-old Antrim County woman, a low-key weekly ritual just turned into a life-changing payday. The longtime scratch-off fan hit a $1 million top prize on the Michigan Lottery's Golden Key instant game after buying a ticket at a Family Fare in East Jordan.
She opted to take her winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000 and is keeping her identity under wraps. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the 85-year-old, who buys scratch-off tickets once a week, told Michigan Lottery officials that the $1 million win was the first thing I scratched off on the ticket. She said she shared the moment with her daughter and now plans to buy a new mattress, give some of the money to charity, and save the rest.
Where the Ticket Was Bought
The winning Golden Key ticket was sold at the Family Fare at 240 S Lake St in East Jordan, according to the store's online listing, which details the location and contact information for that branch.
Game Details and Remaining Prizes
Golden Key is a $10 instant game that offers prizes up to $1 million, according to game listings. Independent trackers also note the $10 price point and $1,000,000 top prize. Michigan Lottery officials told reporters that more than $30 million in prizes remain available in the game, a figure reported by ClickOnDetroit.
The winner chose to stay anonymous while claiming her prize through official lottery channels. In a small northern Michigan town where a scratch-off is usually just part of the grocery run, one routine stop at the store quietly turned into a seven-figure windfall.
