This morning (Tuesday, March 10, 2026) is starting out warm and quiet in Oklahoma City, with temperatures near 66°F at Will Rogers World Airport (KOKC) around 5:35 a.m. CDT. That calm will not last long. A fast warm-up is on the way, and highs should land near 85°F this afternoon as south-southwest winds strengthen through the day.
Afternoon Storms And Severe Risk
By late Tuesday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms start to enter the picture, with coverage increasing into the evening and becoming likely overnight, roughly from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. CDT. Some of those storms could turn severe. Forecasters flag embedded tornadoes and damaging wind gusts as the main concerns, especially south of I-40. Rain chances sit around 50 to 60 percent across the metro, and forecasters urge residents to stay alert for watches and warnings, according to the National Weather Service in Norman.
Gusty Winds And Fire Weather
Southerly winds will be breezy by this afternoon, in the 14 to 18 mph range with gusts near 28 mph, ahead of a cold front that arrives Tuesday night. Once that front pushes through, winds swing around to the northwest and turn gusty on Wednesday, around 12 to 26 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. The front drags in cooler, drier air, and forecasters highlight elevated to near critical fire weather conditions across western Oklahoma from mid to late week. We first called out the quick warm-up and wind in our March 9 outlook.
What To Do
Secure or bring in loose outdoor items and hold off on any planned burns while humidity is low and winds are cranking. If you have evening plans, line up an indoor backup. Head inside at the first sign of lightning or large hail and keep wireless weather alerts turned on. Late-night flyers should watch for storm-related delays and check with their airline or the airport before heading to Will Rogers World.
