A homicide suspect was found dead and another man was wounded after U.S. Marshals and St. Louis police moved in on a hotel room in south city Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The operation unfolded around 3:30 p.m. in The Hill neighborhood at a hotel in the 5800 block of Wilson Avenue. Officers repeatedly ordered the people inside to come out before one man finally emerged with a graze wound. When investigators later went into the room, they found the wanted suspect fatally shot.
How the search unfolded
According to KMOV, U.S. Marshals were helping St. Louis officers track down a homicide suspect when the search came to a head at the hotel. Officers gave more than a dozen commands for the occupants to leave the room before one man came out with what police described as a non-life-threatening graze wound. He was later determined not to be the suspect and will be interviewed by investigators.
When officers went inside, they found the homicide suspect dead from a gunshot wound, KMOV reported. Police told the station that no officers fired any shots during the incident.
Hotel location reported by local station
Yahoo, citing local coverage from FOX 2, reported that officers were at a hotel near I-44 and Hampton, in the 5800 block of Wilson Avenue on The Hill. That account identified the property as a Red Roof Inn, while KMOV did not name the business in its reporting.
Investigation ongoing
St. Louis homicide detectives are leading the investigation, and officials have not released the names of either the wounded man or the deceased suspect. Police have not yet said how the suspect was shot. The man with the graze wound is expected to be interviewed as part of the ongoing probe, according to details provided to KMOV.
