A Houston man, Justin Scarbrough, is now facing a criminal charge in the death of 22-year-old Angela Marisol Diaz, whose disappearance in the summer of 2024 turned into a grim mystery after her skeletal remains were discovered months later near NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Houston police charged Scarbrough on Thursday in connection with Diaz’s death, according to KHOU. The station reported that formal charging paperwork and a court date were not yet available.
Remains Identified Last Year
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later confirmed that the bones recovered were Diaz’s, Click2Houston reported. Officers had found the skeletal remains in March 2025 in a wooded area near Moonrock Drive and Bay Area Boulevard, close to the Johnson Space Center campus, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Timeline And Trafficking Probe
Diaz was first reported missing on July 1, 2024, according to a missing-person bulletin from the Texas Department of Public Safety. As the search stretched on, investigators explored possible links to sex trafficking. In November 2024, a man identified as Krystephor Karvon Brown was charged with promotion of prostitution as part of that probe, FOX26 reported.
Family Reaction And What Police Are Asking
Diaz’s family issued a wrenching public statement and renewed their plea for answers after learning her remains had been identified, her father told Click2Houston. Houston police homicide detectives are leading the investigation and have asked anyone with information to contact the department. The HPD homicide tip line is 713-308-3600. Officials say they plan to release more details as court filings become public.
Legal Status
KHOU reported that while Scarbrough has been charged, related court records had not yet appeared in the online system. This story will be updated as official case documents and arraignment information are released.
