Crash details from police
According to IMPD, the wreck began when a woman driving north on Sherman Drive was traveling so fast that her car became airborne before slamming into a southbound vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the male driver of the southbound car dead, and the female driver critically injured. Investigators reviewed traffic-camera footage of the collision and said they are looking into whether impairment played a role, as reported by WTHR.
Investigators review footage amid corridor safety concerns
Detectives are continuing to comb through video and interview witnesses as they piece together the moments leading up to the impact. The East Washington Street corridor has seen multiple serious crashes in recent years, a pattern that has already sparked safety conversations among city officials and neighbors. WRTV and other outlets have previously highlighted the string of dangerous collisions along East Washington.
What comes next
IMPD says the investigation remains active, and authorities have not yet released the names of the drivers involved. The department has said it will provide additional updates as detectives develop more information about what led up to the deadly crash.
