Kim Kardashian’s Skims is moving into downtown Walnut Creek, with plans for a dedicated storefront at Broadway Plaza in a sizable, multi-suite space near Nordstrom. The lease adds another headline name to the shopping center’s tenant mix after a busy stretch of store openings and closures. Local filings and reports show the project is working through the city’s review process and will reconfigure a key stretch of the mall’s main retail corridor.
The City of Walnut Creek’s development page lists a commercial application for Skims (Application No. Y25-097) at 1275 Broadway Plaza, in Suites D27 and D30, and marks the proposal as under review. As reported by FOX40, Broadway Plaza managers say the lease is finalized and they are eyeing a late-summer opening, although no firm date has been publicly posted.
Which stores are being replaced
Local coverage indicates Skims will take over a combined footprint that previously housed Janie & Jack and the Makers Market, and that the new shop’s layout overlaps part of the former Louis Vuitton space at Broadway Plaza. Beyond the Creek reported the move, and earlier coverage of Louis Vuitton’s closure at Broadway Plaza cited local reporting that in turn referenced KRON4. KRON/Yahoo noted that Louis Vuitton closed its short-term Walnut Creek location in January 2025.
Why Broadway Plaza
Broadway Plaza is an upscale, open-air shopping center that promotes a lineup of more than 80 retailers, including anchors Nordstrom and Macy’s. It is the kind of profile that can support a full-service Skims boutique. The center’s size and customer base have already attracted both national specialty brands and short-term luxury pop-ups. Skims currently operates a Bay Area brick-and-mortar store at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, a sign of the brand’s broader regional push into suburban malls. For more details, see the Broadway Plaza directory and the Stanford location on Apple Maps.
What to expect inside
Skims describes itself as a premium “solutions” brand, blending shapewear, loungewear and wardrobe basics. Those categories tend to perform well in suburban department store environments, which likely makes Broadway Plaza a comfortable fit. The label is already sold through various U.S. retailers and department stores, and Broadway Plaza representatives told FOX40 that they have not set a public opening date yet.
Local hiring activity suggests Skims will lean on trained in-store staff. Nordstrom is currently advertising a Designated Selling Associate role focused specifically on Skims at its Broadway Plaza location. Nordstrom's listing points to demand for brand-specific sales expertise inside the department store.
Next steps
The Skims project is still in design review with the city, so permits and interior build-out are the next hurdles before shoppers can walk through the doors. Local outlets report that Skims representatives had not responded to requests for comment at the time of their coverage, and Broadway Plaza has not posted an official opening date. If the late-summer estimate holds, the store will further reshape the retail landscape in downtown Walnut Creek.
