A late Thursday night in Gonzales ended with police gunfire and a hospital run, and now state troopers are working to piece together exactly what happened.
According to a Troop A news release from Louisiana State Police, the Gonzales Police Department called in the LSP Bureau of Investigations around 11:00 p.m. on March 5, 2026, after an officer-involved shooting on South John Avenue near West Orice Roth Road. Investigators said one person was hit, taken to a local hospital, and listed with minor injuries. No officers were hurt.

Local outlets echoed the agency’s account and filled in a few location details. WBRZ reported that Gonzales Police called in LSP detectives to the stretch of South John Avenue south of West Orice Roth Road. Troopers stayed on scene, processing evidence and talking with potential witnesses as the investigation got underway.
Area Has Seen Trouble Before
The neighborhood around West Orice Roth Road is no stranger to serious police activity. In February 2025, Louisiana State Police detailed a separate officer-involved encounter near West Orice Roth Road that ended in a fatality, a case that also brought state investigators into Ascension Parish.
