
Late Saturday night, gunfire erupted along South Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans' Central City neighborhood, leaving a man shot in the chest, authorities said. EMS rushed the victim to a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition, as reported by WDSU.
The shooting happened on South Claiborne near Josephine Street around 11:45 p.m., according to WDSU. Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department have opened an investigation and released few details as they work to figure out what led to the attack.
Central City in recent weeks
The incident adds to a recent stretch of shootings and police activity in Central City, keeping public safety concerns front and center for residents. Earlier this year, one person was killed in a fatal Jackson Avenue shooting that drew heavy law-enforcement response.
