A late-night argument at a Memphis gas station ended in deadly gunfire early Saturday, according to police. Officers responded to the 1300 block of Bellevue Boulevard, where a man was found shot and rushed to a hospital, where he later died. Investigators say three men took off from the scene in a white pickup truck and remain under investigation.
Memphis police told FOX13 Memphis that the shooting started with an argument at the pumps. Detectives have not released the victim’s name, the names of the men in the truck, or a possible motive. The station and nearby businesses were being canvassed as officers pulled security footage that could help identify those involved. No arrests had been announced.
Gas-station violence has followed a pattern
This killing fits into a troubling pattern of shootings at Memphis convenience stores and gas pumps in recent months. Reports of a Feb. 16 fatal shooting at a BP on South Parkway East, also covered by Action News 5, describe a similar scene, with detectives leaning heavily on video from surrounding homes and businesses. In case after case, investigators have asked residents to hang on to doorbell, dash-cam, and surveillance footage that might capture crucial moments.
Police ask for tips
The Memphis Police Department is urging anyone who saw what happened on Bellevue or has video from the area to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274 or use MPD’s existing tip channels, according to the department’s news portal. Detectives say community tips and privately owned cameras have played a big role in solving previous shootings.
