Blue Copper 2000, the arcade-styled coffee shop on Salt Lake City's Marmalade corner, will shut its doors at the end of the month for a full redesign and rebrand. The Marmalade outpost is scheduled to serve its last drinks on March 31, with the owners planning a final-day event to mark the occasion. The company’s Central Ninth location will stay open while the Marmalade shop is reworked.

Owners Point To A Changing Marmalade

In a social-media post, the shop said that, "As the neighborhood has grown and changed over the years, we've started to feel a little behind the times," and that it plans to "re-envision" the space and reopen under a new name. As reported by Axios, the post added that the current layout has never allowed a "robust" food menu, and that the store's final day will run from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the Tacos Daddy food truck and free merch on hand.

From Retro Arcade Look To 2019 Debut

Blue Copper 2000 opened in 2019 and quickly became known for its black-and-white, arcade-inspired interior and penny-tile accents. Atlas Architects, which led the buildout, has described the finished space as "Peach Pit meets Blade Runner" and lists 2019 as the project’s completion year. Local reporting at the time also highlighted the Marmalade outpost as the roaster's second Salt Lake City location, per Deseret News.

Final-Day Sendoff And A Food-Focused Pivot

The owners say the redesign is meant to give the business room to expand its food program, something the Marmalade footprint has not allowed so far. Axios also reported that the chain will mark March 31 with a Tacos Daddy pop-up and free merchandise giveaways, and that the company’s Central Ninth location will stay open during the workday. The business has not announced a reopening date or a new name.

For now, the Marmalade cafe's arcade machines and signature cold brew are headed into storage, set to live in neighborhood memory until the shop returns in a new form.
