
An early Wednesday call to 911 ended in tragedy after a 36-year-old man was found shot to death inside a home in unincorporated Belleville, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies were sent out shortly after midnight after a caller reported that a weapon had been fired inside the residence. The Coroner's Office has not released the victim’s name, pending notification of relatives.
According to RiverBender, the county’s emergency communications center received the 911 call at 12:24 a.m. about shots fired in the 200 block of Sheffield Drive. Deputies arrived and found the 36-year-old man inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound, and investigators spoke with people who were still at the scene.
What officials are saying
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department said investigators interviewed individuals at the residence and reported that “At this point, the Sheriff’s Department is not actively looking for any suspects,” adding there is “no threat to the community,” as reported by KSDK.
Investigation underway
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and that more details will be released when they are available. The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after family members have been notified, according to RiverBender.
