Thursday afternoon in Liberty Township ended in tragedy when a 58-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Millikin Road. Deputies and Liberty Township Fire Department crews responded to the 4600 block of the road and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The Butler County Sheriff's Office said the crash remains under investigation.
According to WLWT, deputies said the collision happened around 4:45 p.m. when a 2018 Ford Escape traveling eastbound hit the pedestrian who was in the roadway. The outlet reported that emergency responders tried to give aid, but the woman died at the scene from her injuries.
According to WCPO, an initial investigation identified the driver as a 38-year-old woman, and officials have not yet released the victim's name. The Butler County Sheriff's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to examine the scene and document the crash.
As reported by WHIO, investigators have not said what may have led up to the collision, and additional information was not immediately available. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and review any available video or witness statements.
Millikin Road Safety Work And Past Crashes
The stretch of Millikin Road has been the focus of safety projects in recent years, including new roundabouts and planning for an I-75 interchange as officials try to curb crashes along the fast-developing corridor, according to the Journal-News. That reporting notes a prior pedestrian fatality in 2021 helped spur some of the recent improvements.
