A woman was found dead Friday morning near the Grand Canal Trail in central Phoenix, and police have opened an investigation into what happened along the busy corridor.
Officers were called just after 7:30 a.m. to the area near 28th Street, north of McDowell Road, where they discovered the woman’s body. Detectives at the scene placed evidence markers near personal items and a bicycle, and a mobile command post was set up as investigators documented the area and collected evidence.
Arizona's Family crews at the scene reported the mobile command post and noted that detectives marked items near the body, the bicycle and other belongings while the case remains active. According to Arizona's Family, police have not said whether foul play is suspected and have not released the woman’s identity.
Canal trail context and past incidents
The Grand Canal Trail is a well-traveled route for cyclists and walkers, but it has seen serious incidents before. In a 2025 case, a body was recovered from a canal near 32nd Street and McDowell Road, coverage that ABC15 reported.
