Veterans in Butler County will no longer have to trek to the main Cincinnati VA hospital for many routine visits. On Monday, the Cincinnati VA Medical Center dedicated its new Hamilton Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, a one-stop site for primary care, mental health services, podiatry and audiology, all designed to bring everyday care closer to where veterans live.
At the dedication, Zachary Sage, executive director of the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, summed up the clinic’s mission: "We have primary care, mental health, podiatry, audiology, many of the services that veterans need on a more routine basis." He noted that an additional primary-care team could be added soon to keep up with patient demand, as reported by WKRC.
What the clinic offers
The VA's official facility page describes a wide range of outpatient services at the Hamilton clinic, including laboratory testing, optometry, pharmacy, primary care and podiatry, with weekday hours listed for many departments. The listing also spells out transportation help from Disabled American Veterans and county van programs that bring veterans to their appointments, according to VA Cincinnati Health Care.
Background on the move
The new Gateway Avenue clinic grew out of a multi-stage project approved by Hamilton officials in 2024. City records and filings identified the new building site at the corner of Hamilton-Mason Road and Gateway. Early coverage described plans for a roughly 24,500-square-foot facility with 27 exam rooms and an expected 30 to 50 full-time employees, as reported by Journal-News.
Local support and getting to appointments
Local veterans' advocates have long argued that transportation and location often make or break whether someone actually gets care, and Butler County partners say the Hamilton site is a step in the right direction. Kenneth Calihan of the Butler County Veterans Service Commission said the commission offers door-to-door rides to the clinic. WKRC lists the clinic’s address as 7215 Gateway Ave and the contact number as 513-870-9444.
