Authorities took a Habersham County man into custody Thursday evening after a nearly nine-hour search in the Mud Creek community that brought a heavy law-enforcement presence to Mud Creek Road and triggered a soft lockdown at nearby schools. Investigators say 41-year-old Jonathan Lee Jordan of Alto was arrested after a member of the public spotted him, called 911 and guided deputies to the area. Warrants charging Jordan with aggravated assault have been issued, and he was taken to the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville.
Daylong Search Focuses On Mud Creek Road
Deputies were first called to a reported assault at a home in the 3800 block of Mud Creek Road around 7:45 a.m., and investigators say Jordan fled before they arrived, according to Now Georgia. The Habersham County Sheriff's Office, backed by other agencies, concentrated the manhunt on a broad area off Mud Creek Road, using K-9 teams, drones and an airplane as crews worked through rough, undeveloped timber. Level Grove Elementary and South Habersham Middle were placed on a soft lockdown while officials boosted patrols at bus stops and on school grounds.

Officials suspended the active manhunt shortly before 5 p.m. and shifted to continued patrols in the Mud Creek area. About two hours later, a member of the public reported seeing Jordan near Mud Creek Road, and patrol units moved in and took him into custody. Investigators said they did not believe Jordan was armed, and authorities described the alleged assault as an isolated incident because Jordan was familiar with the victim.
