
A late-morning drive on Otay Lakes Road turned deadly yesterday when a head-on collision left one man dead and another driver injured in Chula Vista, authorities said. Both cars were pushed off the westbound shoulder, and the roadway was shut down while first responders worked the scene. Officials said the victim’s name is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
Crash details
According to FOX 5 San Diego, the collision happened around 11:45 AM east of Wueste Road, when an eastbound Honda sedan crossed the solid yellow line into the westbound lane and hit a westbound Acura. Both vehicles came to rest on the right-shoulder embankment of the westbound side. First responders took the Honda driver to a hospital with minor injuries, while the Acura driver was later pronounced dead.
CHP investigating
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward. The CHP San Diego Area office, which handles Chula Vista and other South Bay communities, lists its phone number as (858) 293-6000 on the agency’s website.
What officials say
FOX 5 San Diego reported that CHP officials do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. Investigators are continuing to analyze the scene to determine what caused the Honda to cross the center line.
