Over-the-Rhine saw another violent jolt Sunday night when a person with a gunshot wound to the head showed up at a neighborhood firehouse, prompting a rush to the hospital and another round of questions about safety along Vine Street.
Police say one person was hospitalized after being shot in the head late Sunday in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Officers had already been responding to a ShotSpotter activation on Vine Street when, in the middle of that call, the victim walked into a nearby firehouse asking for help. The person was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where they were later reported to be in non-life-threatening condition.
According to FOX19, officers were dispatched around 8:09 p.m. to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1600 block of Vine Street. While police were on that call, the victim with a head wound walked into Cincinnati Fire House 29 and was transported to UC Medical Center, where their injuries were again described as non-life-threatening.
Neighborhood context
The shooting did not happen in a vacuum. Over-the-Rhine has seen a string of shootings in recent months, many clustered on or near Vine Street, and local coverage has been tracking the pattern. Outlets including WCPO and reports on the fatal shooting of a Cincinnati teenager have highlighted recent violent episodes that residents say have raised ongoing safety concerns.
Police response
The Cincinnati Police Department told FOX19 that investigators do not yet have suspect information and that the case remains under investigation. Officers were canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, according to the station.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Cincinnati Police Department tip line or Crime Stoppers. The department lists non-emergency phone numbers and multiple ways to submit tips on CPD's contact page, which includes details for providing information and reaching non-emergency services.
