A Portland man is facing a jury in Clackamas County, accused of killing 31-year-old Kaley Ann Snow and setting her house on fire in what prosecutors say was a deadly combination of violence and arson. Jurors are slated to hear testimony over roughly a week in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
According to KOIN, the trial began Tuesday and is expected to last seven days. The defendant, 31-year-old Portland resident Bobby Lee Grady Alsup III, appeared in court as prosecutors walked jurors through their opening account of what they say unfolded before the fire.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says a judge issued an arrest warrant charging Alsup with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first- and second-degree arson, first- and second-degree abuse of a corpse, third-degree theft and tampering with evidence. Investigators say crime-scene specialists, an Oregon State Police arson investigator and Clackamas Fire personnel all responded after Snow’s body was discovered.
KPTV reported that Snow’s body was found during a March 21, 2024, response to a house fire in the 8000 block of SE Flavel Drive in unincorporated Clackamas County. The Oregon State Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide, and deputies said Alsup had already been in custody on unrelated charges since March 23 when the warrant in this case was served.
What prosecutors allege
Prosecutors told the court they plan to lean on forensic evidence and witness testimony to tie Alsup to both the fire and Snow’s death, according to KOIN. Court calendars indicate that jury selection and testimony are expected to fill a seven-day schedule, a relatively compact timeline for a murder and arson case.
