An early Saturday drop-off in Hollygrove turned bloody when a driver was stabbed multiple times after stepping in to help a friend, New Orleans police said. The victim had pulled up in the 8800 block of Olive Street to drop off a friend when a woman allegedly began attacking that friend. When the driver intervened, the woman reportedly stabbed the driver several times. The victim was taken by car to a hospital, and authorities have not released the person’s condition, as per WGNO.
According to WGNO, which covered the New Orleans Police Department’s initial response, detectives began collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses at the scene in an effort to identify a suspect and determine a motive. Reporter Raeven Poole noted that officers had no immediate update on the victim’s condition at the time of that report.
Police response and next steps
Officers responded early and investigators canvassed the block, taking statements from people in the area, police said. No arrests have been announced and detectives have not publicly named a suspect. As in many violent-crime investigations, officers typically look for surveillance and cellphone video from nearby homes and businesses, and anyone with potentially useful footage is asked to contact NOPD.
Where this fits in Hollygrove's crime picture
Hollygrove is part of NOPD's Uptown/Carrollton policing district, where violent-crime numbers have shifted in recent years. According to a Q2 2025 district report from the NOPD, homicide counts in parts of the district fell while nonfatal shootings rose in some years, creating uneven trends that shape public-safety work across neighborhoods. Through mid-2025, those district-level figures showed homicide down roughly 43% while shootings rose about 17%, a mix that illustrates how a single violent incident can still unsettle residents.
What to watch
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing. As reported by WGNO, detectives are still seeking evidence that could identify the person who attacked the friend and the person who was stabbed. This story will be updated if police release additional information or announce an arrest.
