What we know so far
Early reporting from ABC15 says the call came in around 5 a.m., and that officers who arrived first forced entry and rescued at least one person. The outlet reports two residents were treated for smoke inhalation and that one officer was evaluated and transported as a precaution. Multiple animals were reported at the scene; some were rescued while others did not survive, according to ABC15.
Recent fires on the Indian School corridor
This stretch of Indian School Road has seen other apartment fires in recent weeks. On Feb. 24, crews battled a second-alarm blaze near 32nd Avenue and Indian School that forced evacuations and displaced residents, as reported by Arizona's Family. The Phoenix Fire Department's Community Assistance Program, which provides on-scene crisis intervention and short-term recovery resources for people displaced by fires, has been deployed to help residents after recent apartment blazes, per the city's program materials (Community Assistance Program).
Where to watch for updates
Phoenix Fire Department said its public information officer is on scene and will post updates to the department's social channels. The initial alert came from PHXFire. Residents in the area should expect emergency traffic and rely on official channels and local news for verified developments.
