A pre-dawn call to a hotel on Landmeier Road ended with a homicide investigation after a 50-year-old Fox Lake woman, identified by officials as Colleen Bagley, was found stabbed to death near a dumpster outside an Elk Grove Village hotel early Wednesday, authorities said. An acquaintance who had been sharing a room with her was taken into custody at the scene and has since been charged with her death. Emergency crews were called to the 2400 block of Landmeier Road shortly after 4 a.m.
What investigators say
Elk Grove Village police and fire crews responded to the 2400 block of Landmeier Road at about 4:18 a.m. on Feb. 25 and found Bagley deceased outside the InTown Suites Extended Stay Chicago. The Cook County Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple sharp-force injuries, and police said they are working with the Major Crimes Assistance Team as the case moves forward. Those details were first shared on the Elk Grove Village Police Department's Facebook page, according to Patch.
Charges and court
On Feb. 27, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved a first-degree murder charge against 54-year-old Arturo F. Taylor of Fox Lake. Investigators allege Taylor stabbed Bagley multiple times after a dispute inside their hotel room, and she was later found outside near the dumpster. Taylor was transported to the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago for a detention hearing, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
What does first-degree murder mean here
Under Illinois law, first-degree murder covers killings committed with intent or during certain forcible felonies and carries the state's most severe criminal penalties. Sentences typically start in the 20-to-60-year range and can be extended or enhanced when aggravating factors are present. For the formal statutory language and sentencing guidelines, see the Illinois Criminal Code at Justia.
Investigation ongoing
Elk Grove Village police said that evidence so far points to an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public, and they have asked anyone with information to contact investigators directly. Authorities have not released a motive, and the investigation remains active, with officials saying updates will be shared through official channels as they become available. Neighbors and local officials expressed shock at the killing, and police urged residents to rely on verified information from the department, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
