
An 81-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman were killed Saturday, March 14, when their vehicle ran off a rural road in Latimer County and overturned into the water. The driver was identified as 81-year-old Jerry Sparks of Kiowa and the passenger as 80-year-old Carolyn Sparks. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, as reporte by FOX23.
According to FOX23, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the vehicle was traveling northbound on Southwest 1100th Avenue just south of Northwest Bowers Road when it left the roadway, overturned and became submerged. The patrol’s initial report did not list any additional occupants and did not identify a possible cause.
Investigation under way
State troopers and local emergency crews responded to the crash, which remains under investigation. Authorities have not said whether weather, road conditions or impairment might have played a role, and no charges have been announced.
Victims identified; funeral plans pending
Officials released the victims’ names and hometown, but family members had not issued public statements and funeral arrangements were not available at the time of reporting. Anyone with information related to the crash was asked to contact local law enforcement.
