Miami rolled into Tuesday under mostly clear, sticky skies, with early morning temperatures parked in the low 70s. East winds are already kicking up and will keep strengthening through the day, which means choppy surf and a high rip current risk along the Atlantic beaches through Wednesday evening. Highs should top out in the upper 70s, with only a slight chance of brief coastal showers right around midday.
Rip Current Risk Through Wednesday
A Rip Current Statement remains in effect through Wednesday evening for coastal Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade, where dangerous currents can quickly tug swimmers away from shore. According to NWS Miami, beachgoers should “swim near a lifeguard” and, if caught in a rip, “relax and float” instead of fighting the pull straight back to the beach. We first flagged this same surf and wind pattern in an earlier Hoodline update; see Monday's surf and wind breakdown for more on the rough seas and small-craft hazard.
Afternoon Gusts And Brief Showers
Skies stay mostly sunny this afternoon, with just a slight chance of rain showers between noon and 2 p.m., mainly hugging the immediate coast. Highs will be near 78°F. Expect east winds around 14 mph with gusts up to 20 mph, strong enough to keep the surf stirred up and send unsecured beach gear tumbling. A slight chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms returns overnight, but any new rainfall should be on the lighter side, generally under a tenth of an inch.
Boating And Beach Safety
Small boats should plan on a bumpy ride, as local waters turn choppy and small-craft conditions become hazardous. Pay attention to lifeguard flags and posted warnings: if a red flag is up or lifeguards say to stay out of the water, take it seriously. Secure loose beach furniture, keep a close watch on children near the shoreline, and factor the breezy setup into any beach plans through Wednesday evening.
This forecast will be updated if advisories change. Anyone heading to the coast today should check in with local lifeguard postings before wading or swimming.
