A 26-year-old man was shot while sitting in his car in River North late Friday night, Chicago police said, then managed to drive himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He took three gunshot wounds to his right leg and was listed in good condition. Investigators say the attack happened in the 400-block of West Ontario Street after a dark-colored sedan pulled up alongside his vehicle and gunfire erupted.
According to ABC7 Chicago, officers said the victim walked into Northwestern just after 11:15 p.m. Friday. Police told the station that two male suspects got out of the sedan, pulled guns, and fired at the victim’s car before taking off. Detectives from the CPD’s Area Three bureau are leading the investigation.
Police Response And Investigation
Chicago police have so far described the suspects only as two males and have not released further descriptions or a possible motive. Area Three detectives are handling the case, and as of Saturday morning, no arrests had been reported.
Another Downtown Incident In Recent Weeks
The shooting comes on the heels of a run of downtown incidents involving drivers, including a February rear-end ruse car robbery in River North in which suspects fired shots during a holdup. In that earlier case, police urged residents and businesses to save any surveillance video and share potential leads with detectives.
How To Help Investigators
Anyone with information about Friday night’s shooting is urged to contact the Chicago police. Area Three detectives can be reached at 312-744-8263, according to CBS Chicago. Officials also encourage neighbors and business owners to preserve any security or doorbell camera footage that could help identify the shooters.
The case remains an active investigation, and police say they will release additional details or suspect information as it becomes available. This story will be updated if detectives announce arrests or new developments.
