Sacramento soccer fans are getting rail service to the Railyards before they get the stadium itself.
Sacramento Regional Transit says fans will be able to ride light rail straight to the future home of Sacramento Republic FC once a new 7th & Railyards station opens in summer 2026. Agency staff set up a booth at a recent Republic FC match to walk supporters through the transit options, answer questions and hand out route information. If the schedule holds, the station will land game-day riders within easy walking distance of the stadium’s main entry plazas.
The agency announced the timeline in a post from Sacramento Regional Transit, thanking fans who stopped by the booth and promising that the 7th & Railyards station will open in summer 2026 "just steps from the new stadium entrance."
Station timeline and construction
SacRT suspended Green Line service on June 16, 2025 to allow major Railyards work, and says track alignment work began that month, with station construction starting in October 2025. According to SacRT, the new 7th & Railyards stop is expected to be completed and open for service by summer 2026.
Where the stadium stands
The Railyards stadium project is on a different clock. Sacramento Republic FC's filings with the city outline a two-phase plan with a 12,000-seat first phase, and local reporting places the stadium opening around 2027. The City Council approved the next phase in June 2025, as approved the next phase reported.
As reported by KCRA, the club's paperwork shows two general admission entrances facing Railyards Boulevard. The club's own Sacramento Republic FC site lays out its broader vision for the stadium and surrounding development.
What it means for fans and transit
The new station’s proximity to the stadium site could cut car trips and ease parking pressure on match nights once games kick off there. In the meantime, the stop is poised to serve new housing, medical facilities and other Railyards projects that are expected to come online before the stadium opens.
City project documents list the stadium site at 11 7th Street (lots 52a-52e), and City of Sacramento records provide the site details. During construction, nearby routes are being adjusted and buses are filling gaps, per a River District summary of service changes.

SacRT says it will announce a firm grand-opening date once construction reaches its final stage, and is encouraging riders to keep an eye on service alerts as detours continue. "We are excited to bring a new light rail station to the growing Railyards area," SacRT General Manager Henry Li said in a press release, according to SacRT. Fans are being told to watch for further announcements from both the club and the transit agency as timelines and schedules are finalized.
