The blaze, reported sometime between about 1 and 1:30 p.m., had bystanders and crews pulling at least one person from the building before medics rushed them to the hospital. Aerial images from the scene showed multiple fire vehicles clustered outside and a ladder stretched up to the roof of the multi-story home.

Boston 25 News reports that the person rescued from the home was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with critical injuries. According to the station, the building’s third-floor window appeared smashed out, and the side of the house was heavily charred. Boston 25 also noted that the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal, the Salem fire chief and the Essex County district attorney were expected to brief reporters later Tuesday evening.

Aerial photos showed firefighters working from a raised ladder and several emergency vehicles packed in along the street in front of the multi-story home, NBC Boston reported.
