A pre-dawn confrontation in San Diego’s Serra Mesa neighborhood ended with a man shot in the leg and a gunman on the loose today. The shooting unfolded shortly after 3 AM in the 3500 block of Afton Road, where officers found the victim suffering from serious leg injuries. Police at the scene provided first aid until paramedics arrived, then the man was rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Single Shot, Shotgun Found Near Afton Road
According to FOX 5 San Diego, San Diego police said the shooter fired a single round that hit the victim in the left shin, and officers later recovered a shotgun in the area. The outlet reports that the suspect bolted from the scene and, despite a search of the neighborhood, officers did not locate or arrest the shooter.
Serious Leg Fractures And Fast First Aid
Officers from SDPD’s Eastern Division provided first aid on the sidewalk until paramedics got there. The station says the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for fractures to both the tibia and fibula.
Suspect Description From Police
Authorities described the suspect as a Native American man in his 30s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a heavy build and long black hair, last seen wearing a black trench coat, according to FOX 5 San Diego. Officers say the shooter fled immediately after the gunfire, and the investigation remains active.
