A Boston woman is facing a manslaughter charge after a stabbing inside a South Boston apartment that left a man dead over the weekend, authorities say. Officers were called to 258 Old Colony Ave around 6 p.m. Friday for a reported stabbing and found a man inside an apartment suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday. After an on-scene investigation, police arrested 24-year-old Gisselle Pascual of South Boston. She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in South Boston District Court on a charge of manslaughter, as reported by WHDH.
According to WHDH, police have not yet released the victim’s name. The station reports that detectives identified Pascual as the suspect following their initial work at the scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Boston Police Homicide Detectives at 617-343-4470.
Legal steps ahead
Pascual’s manslaughter charge is a serious felony under Massachusetts law. The state statute says manslaughter can carry a sentence of up to 20 years in state prison, along with other possible penalties depending on the circumstances. The full text of the law is available via Justia. Her arraignment will be the next key step, when a judge addresses bail and sets the court schedule.
South Boston in context
The killing comes as tensions over knife violence in South Boston have been running high. Local coverage has pointed to several recent incidents, including a knife attack outside a neighborhood bar earlier this month that drew concern from residents, as reported by the Boston Globe.
Boston police homicide detectives continue to investigate Friday’s stabbing and are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at 617-343-4470, as noted by WHDH. This story will be updated as court records and official statements are released.
