A Summit County man was taken into custody Friday after an undercover operation and now faces several felony counts, including soliciting for child prostitution, enticement of a child and cybercrime charges, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators say no actual children were involved in the sting. The suspect was booked into the Summit County detention facility, then released on a $25,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Fifth Judicial District court Tuesday at 9 a.m.
In a Facebook Reel posted by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies identify the suspect as William Leclair and say he was arrested Friday during a coordinated undercover operation. The release lists participating agencies as the Dillon–Keystone Police Department; the Frisco, Breckenridge and Silverthorne police departments; the Colorado Bureau of Investigation; the Colorado Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office; and the Summit County 911 center.
Charges and next steps
Leclair is charged with soliciting for child prostitution (a class 3 felony), criminal attempt to patronize a prostituted child (class 4), enticement of a child (class 4), criminal attempt to sexually assault a child (class 5) and cybercrime (class 5), according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The agency says he was booked on March 13 and released on bond the following day. He is due back in the Fifth Judicial District court on Tuesday morning. “This is our second joint operation to combat human trafficking. It’s not the first time we have seen a crime like this, and it won’t be the last,” Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in the post.
Local context
Undercover stings in which investigators pose online as minors have been used in Summit County before and have led to arrests and felony charges, according to previous coverage. For background on similar operations, see reporting by Summit Daily and Denver7.
Legal implications
The charges against Leclair are allegations, and he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Colorado classifies felonies by degree; a class 3 felony carries presumptive prison terms measured in years, and sex‑related felony convictions can bring long‑term consequences such as registration requirements, according to the Colorado Revised Statutes.
