SUSHISAMBA opened its doors Monday atop the La Peer Building in West Hollywood, dropping a sprawling, multi-level, open-air rooftop right into the middle of the city’s Design District. The space clocks in at roughly 11,000 square feet under a retractable roof, with sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills. Chefs Maxwell Terheggen and John Um are running the kitchen, fusing sushi and sashimi with robata-grilled dishes and a cocktail-forward bar program.
As reported by Eater LA, the Los Angeles outpost officially welcomed the public on Monday and keeps about 60 percent of Sushi Samba’s core dishes while layering in new plates developed specifically for this location, including the Samba LA roll with A5 wagyu and soft-shell crab tempura. The outlet also notes that service will be broken up with five- to ten-minute bursts of live entertainment, and that a late-night menu and a Bossa Nova-themed Mother’s Day brunch are on the way.
Design and reservations
According to SUSHISAMBA, the West Hollywood venue spans about 11,000 square feet and features a retractable roof, multi-level open-air dining, and a private dining room with its own elevator entrance. The location page lists a reservations phone number and email address and directs guests to a SevenRooms waitlist for standard bookings and private events.
Food, music, and late-night
The menu matches sushi and sashimi with robata items such as sea bass and rib-eye anticuchos, alongside Peruvian tiraditos and a Brazilian moqueca. Drinks run from a Lychee Cooler to the Kobe. Eater LA details the restaurant’s initial service hours and reports that the kitchen plans to roll out a late-night menu in the coming weeks. “There won’t be a velvet rope at the door,” Co-CEO Omar Gutierrez told Eater LA. “I want rhythm and tempo to be fun with good volume, where you can have a conversation.”
Where it fits
The West Hollywood launch marks Sushi Samba’s first U.S. opening in more than a decade, following the closure of its last American location, and highlights the brand’s continued global expansion and push toward destination-style dining. Nation’s Restaurant News previously covered the company’s planned U.S. return and the early build-out at The La Peer Building, presenting the Los Angeles project as a strategic homecoming for the group.
