A late-night robbery attempt in southwest Houston turned brutal on Tuesday, leaving a man in his 50s seriously hurt after a teen allegedly pistol-whipped him in the Gulfton area, police say. The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Houston police responded around 9:45 p.m. to reports of a robbery in progress in the 6100 block of Glenmont Drive, according to Click2Houston. Investigators told the station a suspect believed to be about 17 or 18 years old walked up to the man, demanded his wallet, then knocked him to the ground. Once the victim was down, the assailant allegedly kicked him and hit his head and face multiple times with a pistol. Police said the teen suspect then ran to a blue Honda Accord that was waiting nearby and took off. Officers do not believe anything was ultimately taken.
Gulfton Corridor Has Seen Repeated Violence
The stretch of Gulfton around Glenmont Drive has been no stranger to violent crime, with several serious incidents in recent years tracked by local outlets. Nearby Glenmont has seen recent shootings, and the Houston Chronicle has previously reported deadly shootings and investigations on the same 6100 block that have kept the neighborhood under close police scrutiny.
Police Investigating; Tips Requested
As of now, no arrests have been made and the case remains very much active, authorities told Click2Houston. Detectives described the suspect as a late teen and are asking anyone with information or video related to the attack to get in touch with investigators. Crime Stoppers of Houston lists its anonymous tip line as 713‑222‑TIPS and accepts tips through its mobile app and online form, the group’s site says.
Officers say that footage from doorbell or security cameras has helped them crack cases in Gulfton before, and they are urging neighbors in the area to review any video from around the time of the assault for anything that looks out of place. Anyone with information or recordings is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department, as investigators say community tips often make the difference in solving violent crimes like this one.
